Dick Clark
There was probably a time when you thought no one could be older than Dick Clark. But in fact, Dick Clark is three years younger than Roscoe Bartlett. Clark began his career in the mailroom of radio station in 1945. He worked as a substitute host for a show in Philadelphia called Bob Horn's Bandstand in the early 50's, and was it's host when the show was picked up by ABC and renamed American Bandstand. The show was a huge success and aired daily until 1963. It appeared on the network weekly for another 24 years.
Dick Clark started a New Year's Eve program for ABC in 1972, and hosted the show for more than 30 years, until he suffered a stroke in 2004. He returned to the show in 2005, but his speech was badly slurred. Before his stroke, Dick Clark became something of a legend for appearing to never age. Comedian Bill Hicks used to claim that Clark was the antichrist.
