Kentucky Fried Chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken was first served by Harland Sanders in his gas station in Corbin, Kentucky in 1930. Sanders was a private in the Army, equipped with only a seventh grade education, but he knew how to cook. In 1935, Governor Ruby Laffoon named him a Kentucky Colonel, and Sanders began calling himself, "Col. Sanders" and dressing the part. Twenty years later, when Interstate 75 was built, the traffic around his restaurant slowed to a trickle, and he began to franchise his business. In 1964, he sold the whole chain for $2 Million. in 1975, he was sued by Heublein Inc., then owner of KFC, for slander for calling their gravy "sludge". Sanders won the lawsuit. Col. Sanders died nearly 28 years ago, but his image lives on in KFC advertising in his white suit and black string tie.
